When I first moved to my current town, their wasn’t a gym and we had to drive 30 minutes to get to one! Being a stay at home mom, I knew I couldn’t be a victim of my circumstance so I had to figure something out. Driving everyday to the gym was just not going to happen anymore. So I figured I would start doing something I thought I hated doing…. running outside and using my resources haha! I LOVE the gym, and I have always loved the treadmill too, but knowing I might only make it to the gym once a week was just not enough for me.
So I started running outside, and soon enough I found a new love, I found running outside actually made me happy! I started to do it more and more every week and ever since then I just cant stop running outside, I LOVE it! I didn’t find out until recently why I loved it so much though. For one, I love fitness so that was a given, but until I found out recently that it was a form of meditation it clicked, that is why I NEED it! Its like going and doing something like yoga, or even just meditating itself is such an obvious form of meditation, but running? Really?!
When you’re running, you are getting out there and there is nothing to do but think, or not think but just be completely present. You’re concentrating on whatever is in front of you, the beautiful scenery, the open road, your pain, haha! Whatever it is, you are focused and driven to make it to your destination! You might be contemplating whats currently on your mind, or the beat of the music, or your breathing. Also When you take your first step to run, its YOUR time and nobody elses, it might be just you and some friends, or you by yourself but its completely yours! People beat stress, and get ideas when they run because they are in the moment! It really can turn into a sacred practice of mindfulness that you didn’t even know was happening. Seriously the light bulb went on for me when I realized that this was why I loved running, and not just for the sake of getting my cardio in, it really was adding value to my life
If you hate running, I challenge you to try it, and try it for longer than just one run haha! Give it a chance and it just might be life changing and in more ways than one for your heart!
MIND, BODY, SOUL! LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!
